Gluten?

For a while now, I've had some skin issues. I get eczema on my hands (varying degrees of horribleness), sometimes on my finger tips, knuckles, or under my wedding ring. I've tried multiple things to get rid of it: topical things and internal things. I finally thought that maybe it really was something I'm eating. I know that gluten can have an effect on peoples skin, so I thought that I would give gluten-free a shot.

First, I started "The Master Cleanse" and tried to clean my system of basically everything before I started this new diet. After the cleanse, I started up gluten-free. It was interesting trying to learn what I can and cannot have, but I got the hang of it and it was working fine. I could wear my wedding ring without eczema flair ups. I didn't really feel any different though. I kept getting asked if I felt "better", like I should have some noticeable change: Nope! On random occasions I would get the minor start of eczema under my ring and I would be racking my brain for any foods I may have eaten that could've possibly had gluten in it. Ugh, it was totally frustrating. Anyways, I've been gluten-free about a month and just yesterday I decided I'd better "test" myself on some gluten. I had a hamburger, fried asparagus (YUM), and a Voodoo Doughnut (double YUM): I thought if I was going to "cheat" I would make it good! I kept anticipating some horrible reaction to occur. A friend of mine stopped gluten, then took a piece of bread (for sacrament) and almost went into anaphylactic shock and when my sister stopped gluten and started it again, her face broke out in itchy blotches. I was expecting something similar, but to my surprise I got a big Nuttin'. What?!

Okay, now I'm back to the drawing board. I think next I will do the cleanse again and then try dairy free. I already know I'm lactose intolerant, but I've been lucky that my case has been minor, meaning I could still have cheese (Mmmmm, cheese) and I could have dairy in baked goods. I think I will try to eliminate all dairy and see if that helps me "feel better".

I kind of feel like I'm grasping as straws. I have this horrible thought that maybe it is a culmination of things: like gluten and sugar, or dairy and something else. I really don't know. Blah.

Maybe I will just have to live with the rashes........but what if they start to get worse?

UPDATE
I may have jumped the gun. After 2 days of having gluten, I am starting to notice my "old" type of mass eczema starting to come up on my fingertips, plus I feel kind of puffy and itchy. I'm guessing that gluten is the culprit. Well, again I think that it may be gluten plus something else too. I will have to slowly try to eliminate things. Here it goes....
I guess that my gluten intolerance just isn't as bad as my sis and friend (thankfully I didn't go into anaphylactic shock upon consuming a Voodoo Doughnut).

...............At least I don't have to give up cheese.   :)

I haven't looked into it, but I have a friend who says that having flax in her diet (oil, or ground seeds) has helped her excema. Good luck.

I sure hope it is not gluten... but if it is I can help you out however you need. Skin problems can be a sign of gluten intolerance but it doesn't sound like to me that if you have a problem with it that it is very bad. I wish you luck trying to figure out what is causing this, it sounds like you are doing the right thing to try to discover the culprit.
