Rash

Well, we are officially quarantined over here. So, from the heading I assume you can guess this has to do with a rash. Well, here's the story:

Weston developed a light rash of raised red dots on his chest and back about a week and a half ago. We called the doc and the nurse told us it was probably just a viral rash from his getting over something and that nothing could really be done for it, so just wait it out. It wasn't bothering Weston (not itching, or irritating) so we just waited. Then after a couple days, it changed into an eczema looking rash (I know what this looks like all too well). This actually made me feel a bit better because I know what to do for this type of rash. It stayed like this for another few days, then suddenly he developed a fever and had a solid day of tiredness and his rash turned back into raised red dots. "Oh great, what is this!" After nursing his fever for a day, he woke up the next day and it was gone and he was his normal perky self. We thought maybe he was getting his 2 year old molars and that's what the fever was.

That day, he took a drink of water and said "Ow". I thought he was getting teeth so had him open up so I could see. When he opened, I saw red dots on the inside of his cheeks, on the back of his mouth (above the dangle thing), and some on his tongue. "Oh no, this is NOT normal!" I called the doc, spoke with the nurse and told her everything. She was thinking it was hand, foot, mouth disease and I kept insisting that he didn't have anything on his hands or feet, just mouth and his initial rash on his chest, tummy, back, upper thighs, and upper arms. She told me she was stumped, but they wanted to see him the next day (today). After getting off the phone with her I checked Weston out more and yep, there were a couple blistery spots on his hands and feet. "Oh great!" I checked what this rash is all about and I am not excited at this point--virus, contagious, lasting about 7-10 days, mouth hurts to eat/drink, and I can possibly catch it. Arg. "How am I going to keep this from Van?"

So anyway, I took him to the doc this morning, through the back door (very VIP of us) and found out that not only does he have hand, foot, mouth, he also has this other eczema sort of rash that has become infected with impetigo. "Oh joy!" Poor little guy has picked up a virus, bacterial infection, and allergy type rash. Wow!

Here's the impetigo: yucky, huh?

Rash on his trunk and arms, see the patchiness on his tummy (that's the dry eczema type)

On his back

And the hand, foot, and mouth (poor blistery hand)

And to top it off, Van has had a fever since last night. I checked out his mouth today and there are some spots. Oh well, so much for keeping Van from catching this too.

So now we are under house arrest until we are no longer contagious. Wish us well.... :(

Anyone have good ideas on what to do to occupy sick kids for a long amount of time????

Funny side story: at the doc, the nurse brings us into the room and looks Weston over and says, "Where's the rash?" I pulled up his shirt (which you can see in pics doesn't look THAT bad by itself). She said, "Oh, ok undress him and I will meet you at the weigh station." "Huh? You want me to bring him out there?" "Yes." I thought that was strange, seen as how they brought us in the back door. "Oh, ok." I get him down to his diaper and bring him out. 3 nurses are standing around, they look at him and then at each other. They then stammer to me, "Uh, uh, well maybe you should go back into the room. If the doctor needs his weight then we will come for you."  HA! Yeah, that's what I thought!

Our kids got it too! Alex's rashes are super thick and all over. They are now caking over and look awful. Eli only has a couple blisters mostly just fever and cold syptoms. This has been a long week already of staying home! No fun.
