Surgery Update

Van had his tonsillectomy and adnoidectomy on Thursday morning. He is recovering really well. He hasn't had too much pain since he is on a rotation of Tylenol with Codine and Ibuprofin. Day 1 and 2 went very well, he was actually feeling too good and wanting to play and dance/jump around...Doctors orders are to stay still/calm for 2 weeks (really?!). We are trying our best. He is eating and drinking well, which is really important for a smooth recovery.

We went through our first bit of bad pain last night. He's only supposed to be on the tylenol with codine on a regular basis for the first 2-ish days, so last night we figured we would just let him sleep through without waking him up for more drugs (every 3 hours). We only made it 6 hours before he woke up crying and we had to gag down some more drugs (as I was bawling). I guess we will keep him on a steady regimine for a bit longer. We've had an easygoing day today, he says he feels fine but he is happy just lying around so I know he isn't feeling great.

We've already noticed a change in his sleeping. He is barely snoring (he still has some swelling in his throat--so he snores a little). We are happy with his progress and feel very blessed at how well he's doing already.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a place we could take Van to that is stimulating but doesn't involve running, climbing, jumping, or anything that would get his heart rate up???? I am definately open to ideas!

Well you might try taking Van to a cartoon movie. And when the movie starts shove earplugs in to cut the noise. Its so loud!! I bet ya he would love going to the show!!! You could practice with the earplugs before you go so he would know what they are for? Yo Mama

Glad things are going so well. I remember when Lauren got her tonsils out; she recovered much quicker than I remember recovering when I got mine out but I was older and they say you heal faster when you are younger.

What about OMSI? There are some calmer activities (although it costs a fortune). Arcade? Movie? I know there are free movies at most of the theaters during the mornings on weekdays (go here http://aroundthesunblog.com/2010/07/04/free-family-film-festival-at-regal-theatres/). Good luck!

So happy the surgery went well and Van is doing good.
The first thing I thought of was a movie too.
Good luck keeping him down. We'll keep him in our prayers for a full and fast recovery.

We were thinking about you guys. I would say come over here, but yeah our boys do not stay calm together :-). Story time at the library?

I am glad everything went well.

Thanks for all the comments and ideas! Now that we've gotten out of the house we are doing a lot better.
